WJPZ ALUMNI ASSOCIATION WELCOMES THREE MORE ALUMNI INTO HALL OF FAME
The WJPZ Alumni Association Board of Directors is pleased to announce the Class of 2012 to be inducted into the WJPZ Hall of Fame.
With the results of online voting and the votes of the selection committee now tabulated, the WJPZ Alumni Association is proud to recognize Dion Summers ('95),Matt Friedman ('94), and Larry Barron ('87) as the three newest members of the WJPZ Hall of Fame. They will be honored on March 3rd at the Syracuse University Sheraton during Banquet 27. Read the press release here.
Dion Summersis now Vice President of Urban Programming at SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Before that, he was hired by Clear Channel Radio in Miami to program its upstart hip-hop radio station, WMIB-FM. As a student at WJPZ, Dion served as Chief Announcer, Music Director, and Vice President of Programming. Read more about him here.
Matt Friedman is co-founder of Tanner Friedman Strategic Communications in Farmington Hills, Michigan. His firm represents
Fortune 500 companies, professional service firms, non-profits,
associations and entrepreneurs in a wide range of communications
services. Matt was on the news side at 'JPZ, starting as a newscaster and working his way up to News Director and Broadcast Consultant his senior year. Read more about him here.
Larry Barron has been the Senior Vice President of Programming at FremantleMedia North America since 2006. His projects include hit shows such as "America's Next Top Model" and "The Amazing Race." Larry is a former WJPZ General Manager and was instrumental in launching the station on the FM dial in 1985. He also represented WJPZ on the national executive committee of Broadcasters Against Drugs and was President of the Alumni Association in 1988 and 1989. Read more about him here. Because of another commitment, Larry Barron is unable to attend Banquet 27 and will be officially inducted in 2013 at Banquet 28.
Nominees for the awards were chosen by a nominating committee spanning the history of WJPZ. Candidates were selected based on a number of factors, including their contributions to WJPZ and the WJPZ Alumni Association, career accomplishments and honors, and their efforts to further education in broadcasting.
