In January 1986, WJPZ celebrated its first year on FM with its ‘First Birthday Party Blitz’, which featured 3 live remotes, 4 listener parties, many other on-air features - and a weekend celebration called the ‘1st Annual Birthday Banquet”. The Banquet was primarily for the staff, but they did give away a pair of tickets to listeners to sit with some of the station's on-air personalities.
Today, the WJPZ Birthday Banquet & Reunion Weekend is a must-attend tradition which draws alumni from around the country, some of the industry's biggest names as keynote speakers, and serves as the cornerstone of the alumni association's year-long activity.
